First American Title schedules their appointments so tightly that during my closing, the company representative was 20 minutes late. They then blow through the paperwork and signatures, and kind of sigh at you whenever you want to slow down and really understand what you're signing, no doubt because they have another appointment right on your heels. A couple months after my signing, some of the money paid at closing and collected by First American still had not been distributed where it needed to go. Over the course of emails (about a 75% reply rate) and voicemails (0% reply rate), I explained to them exactly which funds were unaccounted for, and where they came from and where they should go. It took them 5 weeks from my first asking "What happened to my money?" before they finally cut me a check, and even then it was not for the full amount. I had to go back, and correct them again, on something that would not require more than the "+" or "-" keys in their ledgers. They really had no idea what was going on with my account. A LARGE sum of money was paid to them for services. They DID file all my documents, which I guess I should give them credit for doing their job in that respect. My main concern is this: When were THEY going to call ME and tell me they had not distributed the funds properly? Had I not tracked this myself and presented all the details and documents, they would have no idea this problem even existed. Are there any other customers out there that this has happened to, but haven't caught it? I would bet with the volume of their business, and the poor record keeping, that there are. I know this business will persist. Its a needed service as long as people are buying homes. Maybe my experience was an anomaly, but if you are in the market, my recommendation is to seek out another establishment. Maybe some place a little less "National", and a little more "Still willing to work for your business". And for those wondering, I began this process being very polite and cordial. It takes a lot for me to get to this point, but my experience with First American was THAT frustrating.
